Discord formatting fun
(Or: you just got phished!)
Welcome to httbs://supper.discord.corn/...
!
Discord has at some point recently added even more formatting to their platform. Headers, links, and apparently a weird little subscript un-header that is just a header with a minus sign in front. The fun part is that it looks, ah... A lot like the official/system Discord messages used to convey important information to people.
No way that can go wrong, eh?
Well, what can go wrong is that people start using these for actual scams linking to stuff that looks too much like real discord login page, rather than a blog post pointing out this. Oh yeah, also: if you click some link that leads to what looks like discord login page, especially if it's sudden and out of nowhere, you're probably about to get scammed.
I sadly don't have any links handy for general education about phishing scams, though. But general idea is to not trust that something looks legit. And also never ever run.exe
("Executable") files.
Though windows hides the extension so you might not see that it is an executable. There's a setting to show that? But not everyone uses it, alas.
P.S. There are 7 things wrong with the message I keep pasting around, at least. Did you notice "HTTBS" and "discord.coRN"? And no, there are no disappearing messages, and there's no easter bunny.
P.P.S. I perhaps overstepped some with my "fake post about disappearing messages" even though I tried to signal as much as possible that it's not trying to deceive as much as it could have been possible. It still can end up being in bad taste.
